Comparison: DollFace 88 Palette & ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette

Isn't it fun to play with eye shadows especially if you have a lot of colors to choose from? Makeup looks are endless! I have a total of 188 colors when I combine my DollFace 88 Color Eyeshadow Palette and ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette altogether. Isn't 188 too much?

When I posted my review on ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette, some asked how it is compared to DollFace 88 Color Eyeshadow Palette. I hope I'll be able to answer your questions through this post.

Packaging: Both are made up of plastic. ELF has a clear top while Dollface is all black and shiny. Both have a small mirror inside and dual-ended foam applicators. I prefer Dollface's black packaging as it looks more sleek and professional-looking. (Makeup artist vibe. Chos!) Also, Dollface's is more travel-friendly because it is smaller and sturdier. 

Price: ELF is only 900php with 100 colors while Dollface is 800php with 88 colors. ELF is a bit cheaper, 900php for 100 colors!

Colors, Lasting power: ELF has matte, shimmer and marble finish eyeshadows, more choices! I think the colors in the ELF palette are more wearable compared to Dollface. There are a lot of light colors in Dollface that doesn't show up well on my lids (light blue, light pink). Also, I think the colors in ELF are fairly distributed - just the right amount of browns, pinks blues while DollFace has duplicate colors - looks two different colors in pan but looks similar when swatched (blues, orange, browns)

Pigmentation: Dollface performs better in terms of pigmentation. On the above swatch, I swiped the eyeshadow from the Dollface palette once while ELF is swiped 3 times. Same goes to the photo below. Both are a bit chalky.

Lasting power:  Both can last up to 2-3 hours without primer and 6-8 hours with primer. I see the necessity of using an eye primer prior to application of eyeshadow from both brands for better adhesion, longer staying power and for colors to show up well.

Conclusion:

Both palettes have their pros and cons. I prefer using DollFace for photoshoots as it is easier to bring around. Also, the colors from the DollFace palette are very vibrant and colorful. On the other hand, ELF has a lot more colors to offer. I particularly love the neutrals from the palette - golds & browns! I cannot really answer the question - which is better as it really depends with one's preference of colors. What I can say is both are great for beginners, for those who want to experiment with colors.

Review: Sleek I-Divine Storm Palette + Comparison with Urban Decay Naked Palette

I wanted to have a good quality eye palette with a set of versatile shades that I can bring around when I go out. Originally, I wanted to get Urban Decay Naked Palette but my student budget wouldn't allow me. So, I searched for possible dupes of UD Naked palette and came upon Sleek makeup palettes. After reading good reviews about the product, I finally gave in and bought Sleek i-Divine palette in Storm a month ago from Chic Cosmetics Manila at 650php.

I really admire the packaging! Very Sleek indeed! The matte finish of the eye palette makes it look classy. It's very sturdy too.

Ta-daaa! It comes with a huge mirror. I appreciate makeup palettes with big mirrors.  A dual ended foam applicator is included as well.

It has 12 gorgeous shades: 9 shimmer/metallic, 3 matte. It has matte black, matte brown and matte light brown, which I think are staples in an eye palette. The shimmer eye shadows are very nice as well! One can create several makeup looks from this palette! From day to evening looks!

Packaging and price: UD Naked is sold for 2500 - 3000php while Sleek is only 650php. Sleek Storm is smaller in terms of thickness and size and has a matte black plastic packaging. I like how it closes securely, I don't have to worry about the palette opening inside my bag. UD Naked on the other hand, is famous for its velour and letters in gold leafing which chips off and fades over time. The velour finish of UD makes it prone to lint making it look dirty and old. In my opinion, UD palette is not travel-friendly because it's quite bulky and is likely to accumulate dirt. Also I find UD's magnetic closure unreliable as it might open up in your bag while traveling.

Both palettes have mirrors but it's more convenient to use Sleek because it's bigger compared to UD. While Sleek comes with a dual ended foam applicator, UD comes with Good Karma brush.

Eye Shadow Shades, Pigmentation, Application: 

Urban Decay Naked - has 12 neutral shades. From satin, shimmery to matte finishes. Every color from the palette is very pigmented, soft and buttery. It's like nothing I've ever had before! Blending is easy because the eye shadows are very soft and buttery. The palette is perfect for women who want to stay on the safe side when it comes to playing with eye shadow colors. Day and evening looks can be created using the palette.

Sleek iDivine Storm Palette - has 12 shades, a combination of neutral and dark shades with matte and shimmer finishes. The pigmentation is as great as UD's Naked, or even better. The swatches can tell how greatly pigmented the eye shadows from this palette are. However, I find Naked softer and more buttery compared to Sleek. In terms of color, Sleek has more dark shades while Naked has more neutral shades. I think more looks can be created from Sleek Storm palette. 

Dupes: Photo comparison of shades from Sleek and Urban Decay Naked that I find similar or close to each other. 

Since the eye shadows from Sleek Storm palette has no names, I numbered them from L-R, Top to Bottom in ascending order.

There you go! I find several shades from Sleek palette similar with Urban Decay Naked palette making Sleek Storm a good dupe for Naked!

 Let me now conclude my thoughts about the Sleek Storm Palette:

What I like:

• Great dupe for Urban Decay Naked Palette
• Affordable for 650php compared to Naked at 2500-3000php
• Great pigmentation
• Staying power up to 4 hours without primer
• The shades can create day to night makeup looks
• Sturdy and sleek packaging

What I don't like:

• Shimmer eye shadows are prone to fallouts 
• Not available in leading department stores

Great pigmentation, colors, staying power and packaging. If you are looking for a good dupe of Urban Decay Naked Palette for an affordable price, Sleek Storm is definitely the one!

DollFace Tutorial: The Ombre Trend

Here's another eye makeup tutorial using my DollFace Palette. Review here..

I've noticed that my DollFace 88 Color Eyeshadow palette has so many greens! I was surprised how these green eyeshadows are so pigmented. Especially the first color, apple green. I used the first and third color from the left and a black eye shadow for this look.

I've changed the format of my tutorial. Instead of individual pictures, I grouped them into four. I think it will be easier this way. What do you think?

1. Apply an eye shadow base/primer for eye shadow colors to appear well. I used a creamy white eyeliner as base.
2. If you want a clean edge, apply a tape. Pat apple green e/s over the lids up to the inner corner.
3. Pat green e/s on the middle area of the lids.
4. Blend outwards. Avoid getting the green e/s on the inner 1/3 of the lids.

5. Pat a little black e/s on the outer corners. Blend inwards. Take note that you only need a LITTLE amount of black e/s. Avoid the middle and inner area of the lids.
6. Remove tape.
7. Apply eyeliner on your upper lash line. I opted for a sexy wing tip! Apply white eyeliner on the waterline.
8. Add falsies!

I also did an ombre lip color to match with my ombre eye shadow. I used a brown Aido lipstick, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in London and a concealer!

Review: Krave Minerale Satin Sheer Eyeshadow

Hey ladies! I'd like to share with you my review on Krave Minerale's Satin Sheer Eye Shadows. These were given to me as late birthday gift by Michelle of Micmic's Corner who I consider to be one of my friends here in blogosphere. Thank you so much sis! She sent samples of some products as well. Plus a sweet letter! She sells Krave products on her online shop, Caramel Sundae Online. 

She knew that I love playing with eye shadows. She let me choose two. I had a hard time choosing because the colors were really gorgeous. I wanted yellow, gold, white and purple. In the end, I picked these two lovely colors. They are housed in clear plastic containers with sifters. The container is of the same size as 5 peso coins.

Bubble Gum is a shimmery aquamarine shade while Matte Mocha is a matte chocolate brown shade. Both colors are very pretty! I am really happy with my choices especially with Matte Mocha because it's a very versatile color. Not only it can be used as an eye shadow but also as an eyebrow powder! I bet it can be used as a contour powder as well.

I was in awe at first swatch! I love the shimmer Bubble gum gives! Matte Mocha is oh so pigmented. no kidding! Perfect for smokey brown eye makeup! No primer needed!

I tested the staying power of the eye shadow by giving them a few tough wipes. Emphasis on TOUGH! I used a tissue in wiping them out. It was difficult to wipe them out without water or makeup remover. Impressing!

Now here's an FOTD using Matte Mocha. I created a brown smokey eye makeup for Chicadora's latest collection, Coffee to Cocktails.

What I like:

• It's mineral! No harmful chemical contents for the skin. 
• Pigmented. These two eye shadows have great pigmentation. Matte Mocha has better pigmentation over Bubble Gum which is expected because BG is shimmer while MM is matte. A little goes a long way!
• Variety of colors available. Check out their eye shadows now! 
• Affordable for 130php each. You'll get 1g for the price. A single jar will definitely last long because it they are really pigmented.

What I don't like:

• Loose eye shadows can be really messy. They are prone to fall-outs.
• Storage. Unlike pressed eye shadows which are housed in palettes, loose eye shadows are housed in separate containers which can be tricky when applying makeup. You have to open the jars one by one. Not travel-friendly.
• The sticker label is starting to fade.

I love the pigmentation and lasting power of these eyeshadows. But I still prefer pressed eye shadows over loose eye shadows because of convenience. Making the jars stackable would be handy. I still want to try out other products from Krave! They're mineral! Good for the skin!

Estee Lauder Makeup Set

Hey guys! I'm finally sharing with you the Estee Lauder products I used on Mommy's Makeover and my Office Girl look. I'm not very much familiar with EL products that's why I don't know if this came in a set or bought individually. It came with a pink pouch that's why I'm guessing this is a set. For now, I'll provide you a short description of each product. I will make a review of each product whenever I find time.

Estee Lauder's Pure Color Eyeshadow quad is perfect for day or night makeup. It has very versatile colors: Nude Fresco, light pink satin eye shadow; Sandbar Beige, matte beige eye shadow perfect for highlighting the brow bone; Pretty Penny, a shimmery brown eye shadow perfect for the crease area and; Ivy envy, a moss green satin eye shadow for the outer V.

Lash primer is new to me! I'm familiar with eye primers but not with lash primers.

I love this lipstick!! Perfect MLBB shade! It has a yummy raisin scent which I find so nice. This kind of lip color can be worn everyday! 

The formula is perfect as well. Just the right creaminess.

Lastly, a lip gloss which has the same yummy raisin scent as the Pure Color Lipstick in Rose Tea.
