Review: San San Matte Finish Liquid Foundation

Finding the right kind of foundation is quite tricky as there are a lot of factors to consider - shade, coverage and staying power, to name a few. A foundation can be either your best friend or your worst enemy that is why it is important to make the necessary considerations in picking the right kind of foundation.

A foundation for medium skin tone with yellow undertones, light to medium coverage, matte finish, and lightweight makes up my check list in finding the right kind of foundation. San-San Matte Finish Liquid Foundation made a perfect score! Its affordability is just a bonus point.

Packaging and price: I like how it's simply packaged in a matte frosted glass bottle which resembles Estee Lauder's Double Wear Foundation. It is very affordable for 140php a bottle. You might even get it for a lower price because HBC is almost always on a sale.
Shade 01 and Shade 03
It comes with a spatula applicator which is intended for scooping up the product. Applying the spatula directly to your face is not advisable as it might contaminate your foundation. I prefer liquid foundations  with spatula applicators over pump bottles because I can always control the amount to be dispensed. What I do is scoop enough amount and apply it at the back of my hands and get the foundation from there using my fingers or a foundation brush.

Shade 01
Shade, consistency, coverage: It is available in four different shades. I only have two - 01 and 03. Shade 01 is the lightest shade that has yellow undertones. Even if it appears way too light for my skin tone, it is very blendable and does not leave any white cast unlike most liquid foundations that I have tried. The picture is enough evidence! Formula is a bit runny making it easy to blend and spread well.

Shade 03
Shade 03 suits medium to dark skin tones with yellow under tones. It is a perfect match for me! Like shade 01, it blends well and does not leave any white, ghastly cast on the face. It provides light to medium coverage. It minimizes the appearance of my pimples but does not conceal it completely. A semi-matte finish would be appropriate as opposed to a completely matte finish.

Even if Shade 03 is a perfect match for my skin tone, I still mix it with shade 01 to for my face to appear a bit brighter. What I really appreciate about the product is it's well suited for Filipina skintone. No more fears of looking like an espasol, Casper or Foundation Day. Ha! The product photographs well, too! I always use this for models during Chicadora shoots.

I used Shade 01 for the fair skinned Monique (left) and mixed Shade 01 and 03 for Julianne (right) with medium skin tone.
Staying power and formulation: It stays up to 4-5 hours depending on the weather. Setting it with a powder can extend longetivity. As I've said earlier, it has a runny texture which is not a bad thing for me because I find it easier to spread. Also, it has a vanilla/coconut scent which I like but might be an issue to some. It does not contain any SPF that is why it is recommended to put a moisturizer with SPF underneath when used during daytime.

Lalaloove the semi-matte finish!
What I like:

  • Affordable
  • Formulation
  • Semi-matte finish
  • Shades available are suited for morena skin
  • Vanilla/coconut scent
  • No white cast
  • Super blendable
  • Lightweight feel
  • Photographs well
What I don't like:
  • Not for long wear
  • No oil-control capabilities
Rating:
9/10
Because of its affordability and the fact that it blends with my skin tone well, I love it! I think it is perfect for photo shoots because it really photographs well. I gave it a high rating because of my own set of ideals in choosing the right kind of foundation - a foundation for medium skin tone with yellow undertones, light to medium coverage, matte finish, and lightweight. It eliminated my fear of looking like the friendly ghost.

Look: Enchanting Blue & Silver Christmas

Exactly 6 hours and 32 minutes until Christmas! Have you decided what makeup look are you going to wear for the Christmas Eve? Not that I'm wearing this kind of makeup later. We're actually spending the Christmas Eve at our house so I won't be putting on any makeup except for brow makeup, of course!

This is my entry for Product Arena by Celline08's Holiday's Contest/Giveaway. Join now if you haven't and get a chance to win a lot of products.

I decided to stay away from the usual green, red or gold color combinations and make something unique by combining blue and silver. My color inspiration is a silver Christmas tree with blue balls I saw at the mall  several weeks ago. I think the color combination is striking!

I used a warm shade of pink for my lips to match with my blue eyes (NYX SMLC in San Paulo). So festive! I think this look is great for evening events/parties. Now, if you really want to stand out from the crowd or if you are attending a party with futuristic theme, you could easily tweak the look by applying the same silver eye shadow on your lips!

Have a Merry Christmas everyone! Remember, God is the reason for the season!

September Lovin: 500 Peso Makeup Challenge

Hi guys! If you have been reading my recent posts, you are most likely aware of the collaboration I participated in with Michelle of All About Being Glam and Michelle of Micmic's Corner. If you want to know more about our challenge, please read September Lovin: Intro. By the way, this is the second leg of our challenge. Our first challenge is Disney Inspired Makeup Look. Check out my Disney Inspired Look *Jasmine*

I assume that you're all familiar with the 500 Makeup Challenge since a lot of beauty bloggers have done this already. One is supposed to create a makeup look of choice using makeup products that would not exceed 500 pesos. Brushes not included! Doing this is actually challenging yet fun! I wanted to buy products that I'd still be able to use after the challenge.

Here are my picks!

#1 Foundation -San San Two Way Cake in #2|100php

I've tried this product before and I can say that it's good enough for the price. My shade is only available in refill version so I got it right away for only 100php!

#2 Eyebrow pencil - Ever Bilena Eye Pencil in Brown| 95php

I've always loved Ever Bilena's Eye Pencils! Creamy and easy to work with. I used this to fill in my brows and to contour my nose. Yay for multi-functional products!

#3 Blush On - Allue Pretty Cheeks in Peach Pie| 75php

I always go for peach/orange/brownish blush for my cheek color. Pink blushes don't suit me! I'm quite impressed with this product for its price. I might put up a review for this one!

#4 Eyeliner - Generic/brandless eye liner| 30php

I think this eyeliner is of the same quality as HengFang liquid eyeliners. Smudge proof and easy to apply! I'm impressed! I didn't get any pricey eyeliner because I'm still at my learning stage in lining my eyes. I have a love-hate relationship with eye liners.

#5 Eye shadow - Qianyu Shimmer Palette| 55php

When it comes to cheap eye shadows from China, I go for Qianyu because for its superb pigmentation! What I don't like about this eye shadow is it has too much shimmer making it difficult to blend.

#6 Lipstick - Excel Paris Matte Lip Cream # 510| 35php

Really gorgeous shade. If not for its super strong staying power, I'd love this.

The total cost of the products I bought is *drumrolls........390php! Yes that cheap!

And for my makeup look, I came up with something that can be worn from day to night!

I used the off white eye shadow from the Qianyu palette all over my lids and applied a little brown eye shadow on my outer v. Very subtle, right? To make my eye makeup a little interesting, I added a wing tip eyeliner!

And because I think I nailed the eye liner this time, I'll add an extra picture! I'm such a failure in lining my eyes, this is a rare moment! Haha!

I chose a vibrant lip color that I think would suit both day and night makeup looks. Would you agree? I love love love this gorgeous peachy/orangey shade!

So far, I'm quite pleased with my purchases. I believe I can still use the products mentioned above even after this challenge. A makeup look need not be expensive, right?

Please check out their posts as well!

What do you think of my picks? Have you tried this challenge? I would love to hear your thoughts!

God bless!

Iya

September Lovin: Disney Inspired Look *Jasmine*

Hey guys! Makeup challenge #1 for September Lovin Challenge with Michelle of All About Being Glam and Michelle of Micmic's Corner is Disney princess-inspired make up! If you want to know more about this month long challenge, read September Lovin: Intro. My choices were limited to black/brown haired princesses only because I don't own any colorful wigs nor I have Adobe Photoshop installed in my laptop.

The makeup look I created is very, very simple. I used a brown eye shadow over my lids and added a thick winged eye liner to create an illusion of bigger eyes. Princess Jasmine has big, almond-shaped eyes, right? I also added a thick pair of falsies for my eyes to appear even bigger and dramatic!

For the lips, I chose a plum shade that's not too dark. Clinique's A Different Grape is perfect for this look!

Since my makeup is super simple, I decided to dress up! I was able to gather all the things that I needed! I used my oversized green ring as a gem for the headpiece. The hair extension I bought years ago helped too!

More vanity shots..

And for a little surprise for the Michelles of this challenge, this video is for you! Heeeeeeheee. I think I internalized the Jasmine idea too much. *Note: Please tone down your speaker volume first!
