Comparison: DollFace 88 Palette & ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette

Isn't it fun to play with eye shadows especially if you have a lot of colors to choose from? Makeup looks are endless! I have a total of 188 colors when I combine my DollFace 88 Color Eyeshadow Palette and ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette altogether. Isn't 188 too much?

When I posted my review on ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette, some asked how it is compared to DollFace 88 Color Eyeshadow Palette. I hope I'll be able to answer your questions through this post.

Packaging: Both are made up of plastic. ELF has a clear top while Dollface is all black and shiny. Both have a small mirror inside and dual-ended foam applicators. I prefer Dollface's black packaging as it looks more sleek and professional-looking. (Makeup artist vibe. Chos!) Also, Dollface's is more travel-friendly because it is smaller and sturdier.

Price: ELF is only 900php with 100 colors while Dollface is 800php with 88 colors. ELF is a bit cheaper, 900php for 100 colors!

Colors, Lasting power: ELF has matte, shimmer and marble finish eyeshadows, more choices! I think the colors in the ELF palette are more wearable compared to Dollface. There are a lot of light colors in Dollface that doesn't show up well on my lids (light blue, light pink). Also, I think the colors in ELF are fairly distributed - just the right amount of browns, pinks blues while DollFace has duplicate colors - looks two different colors in pan but looks similar when swatched (blues, orange, browns)

Pigmentation: Dollface performs better in terms of pigmentation. On the above swatch, I swiped the eyeshadow from the Dollface palette once while ELF is swiped 3 times. Same goes to the photo below. Both are a bit chalky.

Lasting power:  Both can last up to 2-3 hours without primer and 6-8 hours with primer. I see the necessity of using an eye primer prior to application of eyeshadow from both brands for better adhesion, longer staying power and for colors to show up well.

Conclusion:
Both palettes have their pros and cons. I prefer using DollFace for photoshoots as it is easier to bring around. Also, the colors from the DollFace palette are very vibrant and colorful. On the other hand, ELF has a lot more colors to offer. I particularly love the neutrals from the palette - golds & browns! I cannot really answer the question - which is better as it really depends with one's preference of colors. What I can say is both are great for beginners, for those who want to experiment with colors.

Is this comparison helpful? Do you have any palette from Dollface? ELF? How do you find them?

Review: ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette

100 colors in one palette? Isn't that awesome? I think I have every color I'll ever need for every makeup look with ELF 100 Piece Eyeshadow Palette.

This convenient makeup collection for your eyes allows you to be your own makeup artist whenever, wherever. A great value for any makeup lover!

Packaging and Price: The eye shadows are housed in a clear plastic packaging which comes with a small square mirror and 2 sponge tip applicators. I don't think the palette is suited for travel because it doesn't look sturdy at all. I think the price is 899.75php. Very affordable considering the number of the eye shadows you'll get.

I got this palette from winning ELF's raffle a couple of months ago. See my post about it here.

Colors: I love how the colors are neatly arranged! I don't have any difficulty during makeup application as they are arranged properly into their color scheme. My favorites are the browns, blues and greens! The palette has matte, shimmer, satin and marble finish eye shadows. Are you intrigued with the marble e/s as much as I am?

Pigmentation, Application and Staying Power: The pigmentation of the eye shadows differ depending on their finish and color. Shimmer finish eye shadows have better pigmentation over matte ones. Some of the eye shadows are chalky and prone to fall outs. In my opinion, using a primer or a base color is a must for the eye shadow to stay longer and show its true color.

Swatches: I applied a creamy white eyeliner as base upon swatching some of my favorite colors from the palette. The colors show up better with primer or base underneath. Using a primer helps eye shadow adhere and last longer too.

When worn: Here are some of the looks I created using the palette.

What I like:
  • Super affordable considering the number of colors you'll get
  • Great color selection. It has every color you'll ever need!
  • Perfect palette to play with. I highly recommend this palette to makeup beginners like me!
  • Widely available on ELF counters at SM Department Stores/Watsons/Landmark
What I don't like:
  • Packaging looks cheap
  • Some eye shadows are poorly pigmented
  • Without primer, staying power is short
Rating:
8/10
Despite the poor pigmentation and staying power of some eye shadows, I still love this palette very much. I gave it an 8/10 because it's very affordable. I think this palette is perfect to play around with. Every makeup look you could think of can be created with this palette. Also, a good primer can easily resolve the pigmentation and staying power issue of this palette.

Where to get:
800-900php (not sure about the price) at ELF counters located at SM Department Stores/ Watsons/Landmark

Halloween Makeup Collaboration: Iza Calzado (Celebrity Inspired Theme)

Here's the final installment of my Halloween Makeup Collaboration with Jannie of Jannieology, Misha of The Touch of Yellow and Eyah of Eyahnism. Celebrity-Inspired makeup look is our final theme. Don't forget to check out my previous makeup looks for this makeup collaboration! (Animal theme: Black Bunny, Scary doll theme: Walking Dead)

My makeup is inspiration is the beautiful Iza Calazado. I chose a local female celebrity because I think it's a lot easier to achieve.

I'm loving her bronzed makeup look on the Rouge July 2012 issue. It's so simple yet very stunning!

In order to copy Iza's naturally deep-set eyes, I used a warm brown eye shadow on my crease. I used a white and light yellow eye shadow to highlight my brow bone and lids. I made my brows longer and a bit thicker to resemble Iza's makeup look. I also added a wingtip eyeliner and falsies. Pretty simple, right?

I used NYX SMLC in London and Laura Mercier Lip Gloss to achieve Iza's nude lips.

Echuserang froglet. Konting tangos pa ng ilong at ayos ng buhok hahaha.

For the cheeks, I just contoured and added a bronzer. Done!

More vanity...

Sorry for the messy hair. I am too lazy to recreate Iza's big curls.

Products used:

Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Organza
Max Factor Translucent Powder in 02
San-san Liquid Matte Foundation in 03

Sleek iDivine Storm Palette
ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder

Look: The Evil Witch

I am inspired to create a wearable Halloween makeup look few days ago and here's the result! This makeup look is far from the scary, gruesome makeup looks for Halloween like my Walking Dead Makeup Look. This one is very wearable and can pass off as a nighttime or even party look.

I paired a deep plum lip color with  a moss green eye shadow that is slightly winged out. I also used a black eye pencil to fill in my brows instead of the usual brown pencil. Can you notice how I drew my eyes thinly? I just think witches have thin, pointed brows that's why. I love the lipstick that I used for this makeup look. It's a matte plum color that's currently in at the moment. I'm not familiar with the brand (Elaino #32), though. I just found it from my mom's stash.

What I'm wearing is actually a Gryffindor robe. I got this from a thrift shop for only 20php. It's a knee-length robe that has a hood and Gryffindor's logo. Harry Potter fan, represent!

These are the products I used to create my makeup look:

Beauty Cosmetics Brushes
Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Organza
L'oreal Tru Match Powder
Ever Bilena Eye Pencil in Brown
ELF Mechanical Eyelash Curler
Allue Pretty Cheeks in Peach Pie
Sleek iDivine Storm Palette
Lash Glue + False Eyelashes
Elaino Lipstick #32

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Makeup Collaboration

Here's a makeup collaboration for a cause! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I together with Janet of Journey on Beauty and Nonsense Stuff, Joyce of CandyLoveArt, Mitchie of Mitchiekyuti and Michelle of Micmic's Corner collaborated to raise awareness about breast cancer among the blogosphere.

We decided to incorporate the color pink in the makeup look for this collaboration.

I used a very light frosted pink for the inner 2/3 of my lids. For my outer v, I used a dark gray eyeshadow and blended it inwards. I also dabbed a white shimmery eyeshadow on the inner corner of my eyes. I made an extra long wing tip to elongate my eyes and used a white eyeliner on my waterline.

L-R: Careline Lipgloss in 102, Colour Collection in Tea Rose, Excel Paris Lip Cream in 101, 3 colors combined
I decided to be a little more creative on the lips. I used three different shades of pink lipsticks for an ombre effect! Pink is such a nice lip color! I'm into bright pinks lately.

Here is how the different shades look like when worn:

L-R: Careline Lipgloss in 102, Excel Paris Lip Cream in 101, Colour Collection in Tea Rose
Careline Lipgloss in 102 is a very loud baby pink which I find similar to Wet n Wild DollHouse Pink. The color is really nice for night outs. In my opinion, this color is not for everyday use because it doesn't look good without any eye makeup. I find Excel Paris in 101 similar to NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa. It's the perfect hot pink. Hot pink is my favorite among the three shades I used. The color would not look overwhelming even without eye makeup. Lastly, Colour Collection in Tea Rose is great for everyday use. It's a cool shade of pink with purple undertones.

Products used: Fanny Serrano Two Way Cake in Organza, Pasha Concealer, Ever Bilena Eye Pencil in Brown, HengFang Liquid Eyeliner, ELF Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder, Maybelline Lash Stiletto, Careline Lipgloss in 101, Excel Paris Lip Cream in 101, Color Collection Lipstick in Tea Rose, ELF 100 Color Eyeshadow Palette, ELF Mechanical Lash Curler, Beauty Cosmetics Brushes

*Thanks to my sister who lent me the Careline Lipgloss & Color Collection Lipstick*

Look: Leopard Print Makeup

Hello guys! I'm happy to be blogging again! School kept me so busy. I couldn't find time to edit pictures and post anything here. Glad to be back! Here is a makeup look inspired by a friend (Hello, Camille Cabrera!). I saw her picture wearing a leopard print eye makeup through Instagram. I thought she used eye shadow stickers at first. I was surprised that she did it manually.

And so I was inspired to recreate her look. If I could draw leopard prints on my nails, maybe I could do it on my lids too! I finally tried my ELF 100-Piece Eye Shadow Palette I won from ELF's giveaway. I used a shimmery gray/silver eye shadow all over my lids up to my brow bone. I'm quite impressed with the color pay-off! I used my HengFang eye liner to draw random circles and dots. HengFang liquid eye liner is  a great product with an incredibly cheap price! Only 30-35php!

I used Nichido Waterproof eyeliner in black as lip color and topped it off with a black eye shadow to give it a matte effect. I patted a silver eye shadow on the center of my lips to give depth and shine to my lips.

I didn't apply any blush so the focus will be on the eyes and lips. I just contoured my cheeks and nose using Ever Bilena's blusher in Earth.

I totally enjoyed doing this makeup look especially using an eye liner to color my lips. I might do another version again!

Have you tried any animal-print make up looks yet? What do you think about this look? I would love to hear your thoughts! :)

God bless!

September Lovin: Fall 2012 Makeup Look

The final part of September Lovin Collaboration with Michelle of All About Being Glam and Michelle of Micmic's Corner has finally come! Not that I'm looking forward to the end, I just cannot believe how time flies so fast. Just a few days away from October!

If you haven't checked the first, second and third part of this collaboration, please do so! September Lovin: Introduction, Disney Inspired Look and 500 Peso Makeup Challenge. We had a hard time thinking of what we should come up with for the last part. We settled for a Fall Makeup Look in the end because we thought it is very timely.

I did a little Google search about fall makeup looks. Among the makeup trends are mulberry/deep plum lip color and brown smokey eyes. I chose to do both.

Just a subtle brown smokey eye. The light washed out the true colors of my eye shadow. I used ELF trio palette (get the look set). I used the white eye shadow for the entire lid and the inner corners and a warm brown eye shadow for the outer v. I used my brown Ever Bilena eye pencil for my brows and that's it!

I used two different lipsticks for this makeup look. For the left picture, I used NYX round lipstick in Orange Soda which I had a hard time using. It's so creamy and settles on the lines of my lips. For the second picture, I used Avon Ultra Moisture Rich Lipstick in Jubilee Rose which has a deep plum shade. It is actually darker in person, the lighting altered the color again!

Looks like a bright purple shade, right?

To the Michelles:

Thank you for letting me join this collaboration. I really had a great time doing this challenge. I had a chance to do things that I wouldn't do out of my own initiative, the Disney Inspired Look for an instance. I was challenged to squeeze in making looks and meet deadlines as well. Nevertheless, I enjoyed!

However, the fun is not the best part of this collaboration. Know what it is? It's the friendship I gained with you guys. We exchanged 2500+ messages over our Facebook chat. Andami no! This challenge pulled us closer. Yay! Thanks!

Looking forward for more collabs with you ladies!

Make sure to check out their versions as well!

Michelle of Micmic's Corner

Have a good night!
God bless!
